The Suppressed or Smart Ass Woman....That s the Question!

Once again, I watched Steal Magnolias yesterday. No matter how many times I re-watch this movie, there always seems to be something that reaches out and touches my heart. The ladies in this movie are a good combination of characteristics women possess.

But what stood out to me yesterday was the difference between a woman who is suppressed by her environment or situation versus the smart ass woman who lives by no rules.

Being a woman of suppression is Christian like and I use to think that it was MORE acceptable amongst people and friends (Much like Annelle’s character in Steal Magnolias). It is the Christian way to be and acceptable to God but not sure it is towards the reality of what happens in our life and in the world. When I was a little girl, my mother and grandmother raised me in a Christian environment and therefore you were to always be respectful of other’s feelings. So when I didn’t behave myself, I would get counseled. They were extremely strict with my actions and how I would react to situations and people.

When other people or situations beyond your control are navigating you on who you are on the inside, how will you ever know who you really are?

Weezer is the ultimate Smart Ass in this movie. She has it mastered to a tee. I use to find this behavior unacceptable and repulsive. As I’ve aged, I realize “If you’re inhibited by people, illness or Christianity, you may be living life but not enjoying life!”

I think women should be a little of both and I think we should try to enjoy our friends different personality traits, life would be boring if we all acted and reacted the same way to situations and life.
